Series Split with Buckeyes | Sweep @ Warriors | Host Mavericks


In the team's first road trip of the year, the Badgers traveled to Columbus, OH to take on fellow Nationals attendee Ohio State.


In game one, the Badgers would start the offensive attack as Gunderson netted the first of the weekend off a pass from Byrd! 1-0 Badgers! Tompkins would add another one for the good guys from the point to give the Badgers a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.


The second was all Ohio State though, as they would tie the game at two heading into the second break.


The third period saw a true battle between the foes as Byrd would put the Badgers up by one later in the period! However, with a few minutes left in the third, the Buckeyes would tie the game once again on the power play. The 3-3 deadlock would force the teams into overtime late Friday night. The Badgers sent out their hot hands, Feldt, Barbour, and Gunderson to start the 3 on 3 OT period. On a beautiful play of patience and passing, Feldt would find Barbour back door where he would burry the game winner! 4-3 Win for the Badgers!


Game two would see an almost inverted box score as the Buckeyes would score two early and hold that lead going into the first intermission.


The Badgers bounced back in the second, seeing a goal from Jake Bailey, to bring the edge for the Buckeyes down to one heading into the third.


In the third period, Barbour would tie the game just :44 seconds in on the power play! A few minutes later, Jonathan Gatewood would net his first of the year to put the badgers up 3-2! But, the Buckeyes weren't backing down without a fight. They would score 3 goals in 5 minutes to recapture the lead 3-5. The Badgers would fight back for the last 8 mintues of the game but wouldn't find the back of the net again until the clock showed :02 left. Ohio State would win game two by a final of 4-5. Gatewood also had the late goal.


The team jumped back on the road for another series closer to home against Winona State this previous weekend. Looking to bounce back after a close loss in Columbus, the Badgers came to play.


The Badgers would start the game with a goal from Eli Padilla off a great pass from Perea. Byrd would increase the lead to 2-0 with a one-time blast from Pitts. They would carry the 2 goal lead into the first intermission.


The second would see 3 more goals for the Badgers from Barbour, Gunderson, and Feldt. 5-0 after two periods of play. The third saw a couple more Badger goals from Gunderson and Byrd, capping off game one by a final of 7-0!


Game two, the Badgers saw similar offensive success, but not as quickly as they would've liked. Gatewood would net the first and only goal of the first period giving the Badgers a 1-0 lead. Owen Phelps with the assist on the opening goal.


Period two saw 7 minutes of scoreless play before the Warriors would net their first goal of the weekend, tying the game at 1-1. A quick 2 minutes later, Gunderson would score putting the Badgers up 2-1! Byrd would snipe one after a penalty kill to put the Badgers up 3-1 with 3 minutes left in the second! :50 later, Harry Burmeister would snag his first of the weekend, 4-1 good guys after the second.


The third period saw some other new faces finding the back of the net with Tommy Deverell scoring from the point, 5-1! Feldt would score halfway thorugh the final frame to make it a 6-1 lead for the Badgers. A perfectly executed zone entry saw Padilla finding the back of the net putting the Badgers up by a touchdown 7-1. The Warriors would capitalize on a miscue making it 7-2 late in the period. Barbour would answer for the visitors with just about a minute left, capping off the 8-2 win and weekend sweep for the Badgers!


After the weekend sweep, the Badgers improve to 7-2-0-1 on the year! This weekend, the Mavericks of Minnesota State - Mankato, looking to add a couple more WCCHA wins to the resume. Game one will be at 8:30pm at the Shell. With the homecoming festivities this weekend, please make sure you are getting to the rink early to find parking! Game two is at McFarland Community Ice Arena, 4812 Marsh Rd, McFarland, WI, at 12:15pm. We are excited to see some hometown faces at the games this weekend!
