ABOUT
The UW Club hockey team takes part in WCCHA conference play, and will also play many other teams that are associated with the American Club Hockey Association from all over the Midwest. The team will play 25-30 games over the course of a season, not including regionals and nationals.
To be eligible for the team, players must be enrolled full-time at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Each player has five years of eligibility at the Division II level, with the exception of former NCAA players, who lose a year of eligibility for each year played at the NCAA level plus one additional year. Undergraduate and graduate students who have not exhausted their eligibility are invited to participate.
Tryouts for the team take place in the first week of school at the Shell Recreational Facility on campus. The Wisconsin Men's Club Hockey team is competitive, and cuts are expected to be made at the end of tryouts to complete a roster of 20-25 players. Tryout times, dates, and cost are usually posted mid-summer as the fall semester nears.
Players' dues are collected at the beginning of the season. The dues help pay for hotel rooms, ice, referees, game socks and jerseys, transportation, team membership dues (ACHA/WCCHA) and many other related costs. In addition to dues, the club participates in fundraising opportunities throughout the season.
There will be two practices held a week (unless otherwise notified) at the Shell on campus. When the Shell is not available, the team will practice at local ice rinks near campus. Practices last for one hour to an hour and a half.
Players are required to have red pants/shells, red-colored gloves, and a red helmet. Helmets can be borrowed from the team during the season, but players are responsible for providing the other necessary equipment. Game jerseys, practice jerseys, and game socks are also provided by the team.
